Homemade Salsa.

Freshman year I got totally obsessed with eating black beans.  Weird, I know.  During my crazy obsession I was finding every way possible to include them in my meals.  That lead to my homemade salsa adventure.  I began making quesadillas, burritos, and sometimes just a bowl of black beans, salsa, and shredded cheese (I'm telling you I LOVED them).  This adventure has turned into the life of the party!  Every where I take the salsa, guaranteed someone asks for the recipe.  So, if you are invited to a gathering and need a quick side to bring, whip up this winner.

I found this recipe somewhere on the internet four years ago, and have tweaked it and made it my own.  Here is the original:
  • 2 Cans of Diced Tomatoes
  • 2 Tablespoons of Lemon Juice
  • 1 Fresh Jalapeno Pepper, chopped
  • Chopped Onion
  • 3 Drops of Hot Pepper Sauce
  • 1 Clove of Garlic, minced
  • Banana Pepper Juice
Blend until desired. Chill.

I always make this salsa in a hurry so I keep a jar of sliced jalapeno peppers, chopped onion in a jar, and minced garlic in a jar on hand.  For the freshest results, use the "real" thing, of course.  I have also figured out along the way that I like to add jalapeno juice and lots of banana pepper juice than stated.  I also add 10 drops of hot pepper sauce, rather than 3, but find what you like best.  Stephen and I like our salsa hot and spicy, so the best thing is just to start out with the original recipe, and add a little bit more every time until you find your desired amount.
